How to Buy a New Water Heater for Your Condo
What’s so special about buying a water heater for a condo vs., let’s say, a traditional single family home.
Just you wait and see.
Back in April of this year (2015), a new federal program named NAECA became the law of the land. NAECA, which stands for National Appliance Energy Conservation Act, makes it mandatory that all new water heaters manufactured in the US – or elsewhere for sale in the US – conform to new and stricter energy efficiency standards. Nothing wrong with that, right? The less energy your water heater consumes, the less you pay to run it.
Except, that is, for one other seemingly innocent detail of NAECA. To achieve compliance with its mandates, new gas and electrical water heaters with less than 55 gallons of storage capacity are now 2 inches higher and wider than previous models. And hence the rub for many condo owners who have just enough space for their current water heater and/or furnace, since their condos were actually designed that way.
So if, for example, you have a 50 gallon water heater that you want to replace, and you have just enough space for the one you’re replacing, a 50 gallon replacement unit simply won’t fit.
That’s where we come in: Plumbtastic Plumbing & Rooter. We were given plenty of advance notice on NAECA, which gave us plenty of time to prepare alternate strategies for anyone needing a new water heater with not enough existing space for exactly what they have in mind.
What kind of solutions can we offer you? For starters, maybe you don’t need the exact same size water heater you have now, where smaller will do as older children have moved out on their own. On the other hand, perhaps you need even a greater supply of hot water – then what? Well, for starters, we’ll talk to you about the benefits of a tankless water heater, one that has no storage tank at all which renders the space issue moot. We’ll also look for a way, at your request, to reconfigure the space allotted for your water heater to accommodate a larger storage tank system.
Bottom line, we have the right water heater solution for any family, and regardless of the size or type of your home. So call us today, and let’s figure out what’s best for you.
